In short
Omit is made by Dennis Smit (Smit Media). The app has no account, no ads and no analytics of its own. Your pictures, documents and faces never leave your phone through Omit, and the developer receives none of it. A few parts of the app are provided by Google (Google Play, face and text recognition, document scanning and the Android backup); what they do is described below.
What is stored and where
Your settings, your drafts and the list of recently saved pictures are stored on this phone, in the private storage of the app. Other apps cannot read it. Pictures you save are written to the place you choose, such as your gallery, and contain no location or camera data. The app asks for no permissions of its own: you pick photos and files with the Android pickers, and a camera photo is taken by your camera app.
When the app uses the internet
Omit does not need the internet to hide things. Google Play uses the internet to check whether you bought Omit Pro and to handle the purchase; the developer does not receive your payment details. Google Play services may download the recognition models for faces, text and document scanning. Nothing about your pictures is sent.
Recognizing faces, text and documents
Faces, text and the edges of a scanned document are recognized on your phone with Google ML Kit; the picture is not uploaded. The models are provided by Google Play services. ML Kit may send technical usage data to Google, such as device model, app version, an installation identifier and performance measurements, to maintain and improve the component. It contains no pictures, faces or text from your files.
Backup
If the Android backup is on for your phone, Android can store a copy of the settings of Omit in your own Google account, under Google's terms. Your pictures, documents and drafts are not part of it.
Sharing
When you share a picture, it goes only to the app or person you choose. Pictures you send to Omit from another app are used only to edit them.
Keeping and deleting
Drafts and recently saved items stay on your phone until you delete them. In the settings you can turn recently saved off, which removes the copies at once. You can also remove everything by clearing the app's storage or uninstalling the app. A settings backup in your Google account is removed by Google after you turn the backup off or stop using the app.
Website and contact form
The website smitmedia.dev/omit uses no tracking cookies and no analytics. The theme you choose is remembered in your browser. If you use the contact form, your name, email address and message are sent to the developer by email and are used only to answer you. A copy of the message is kept on the web server, so that nothing gets lost if the email fails. The web server keeps the usual access logs for security.
Spam protection (Cloudflare Turnstile)
The contact form on smitmedia.dev/omit is protected against spam and bots by Cloudflare Turnstile, in invisible mode: you do not see a check. To tell people from bots, Turnstile processes technical signals from your browser, such as your IP address, TLS fingerprint and user agent, together with the site key of this website. Cloudflare uses this data to detect bots for this website and to improve Turnstile. Turnstile is loaded only on the pages that contain the contact form. This processing is described in the Cloudflare Turnstile Privacy Addendum and the Cloudflare Privacy Policy.
Questions
Questions about privacy? Use the contact form on smitmedia.dev/omit, or the developer contact details on the Omit page in Google Play. If you report a problem from the app, your mail app opens with a message that already contains technical details of your phone (model, Android version, app version and language). You see them and decide yourself whether to send the message.
